Congress in Lisbon
The return to faith is changing the world while at the same time registering peace-rupturing religious phenomena between people, interaction between religions, tolerance and human rights. As such, the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT) created the Instituto de Cristianismo Contemporâneo (ICC), integrated in the sphere of Science of Religions.
The ICC has developed academic work through various instruments of action, such as Conferences, conference cycles, seminars and debates centered on the topics of contemporary christianity, as well as training and courses (graded or not) that imply the development of a culture of difference, creativity and global development, as well as the publication of scientific articles on the “Revista Lusófona de Ciência das Religiões”.
We will present in Lisbon from the 25th to the 27th of May 2018 the 1st International Congress of Contemporary Christianity, dedicated to the topic “Christianity, Culture and Dialogue in a changing world”, that focuses on encouraging scientific investigation and sharing its results in the areas of religion and christian spirituality, specifically in the various branches of faith, as well as its relation with other experiences and religious expressions.
This congress is strictly of academic nature.

Thematic axes nº. 1- Contemporary theological challenges
Contemporary life has presented new challenges to the Christian faith, from a doctrinary and conceptual point of view and from the religious praxis, in a world that is constantly changing. Such is the loss of religious identity, ecological balance, gender equality, social justice or ethics and conflict of values, as well as other pressing themes that provoque research and reflection.
Thematic axes nº. 2- Faith and Culture
Modern life has established Reason as a privileged guide in the process of human developlent, positioning non believers in a state that above all, can’t ignore the dynamic of religions and believers in a delicate managment of day to day confrontations between Faith and Culture. Understanding in what way do both dimensions coexist and intermingle is a challenge for researchers.
Thematic axes nº. 3- Interconfessional and interreligious dialogue
In a time where the return to faith is changing the world while at the same time registering peace-rupturing religious phenomena between people, interaction between religions, tolerance and human rights, the Christian branches and religions of the world are generally challenged to partake a proactive and educational role, specifically in the areas of sharing cosmovisions, promoting human dignity and defending religious freedom.
Thematic axes nº. 4- Christianity, Democracy and Civil Society
Today, the expression of Christian faith faces the practice of citizenry in democratic and non democratic societies, with varying results. At what point does religion collide with society? In what way can society inhibit believers to live their faith in liberty?
The congress schedule will include some events to be announced.
A festival of Christian choral music is being organized, which will partake during the month of May in various churches in Lisbon and will conclude the congress with a final concert with all the participating parties.
We are focussed on a festival that includes different music genres such as classical, gospel, contemporary and African.
